How to Plan a Luxury Cruise Vacation

A luxury cruise vacation is something most of us dream about. Sailing the ocean under sunny skies, our every want and need anticipated by attentive staff, food and wine everywhere we look, not a worry in the world. Well, what's keeping you?

Three-quarters of the earth is covered by water. What better way to explore our planet than in style on a cruise ship? Today's luxury cruises run the gamut from small vessels that carry 8 or 10 passengers to giant ocean liners with every amenity you could imagine, and a few you couldn't.

If you want a smaller, more intimate luxury cruise, look into small-ship luxury cruises. These all feature the service you would expect at a 5-star resort. You'll use fine china for dining, eat outstanding cuisine prepared by highly-trained chefs, and enjoy a selection of activities and destinations.

The smallest luxury cruises are actually aboard chartered yachts, and you can have the ship all to yourself--or your group. Ships that sleep 34, 42, up to 80 can be chartered to travel at your whim.

However, there are several cruise lines that specialize in small-ship luxury cruises. Regent Seven Seas features four different luxury ships: the Seven Seas Voyager, Seven Seas Mariner, Seven Seas Navigator and the Paul Gauguin. The Seven Seas Mariner was the first all-suite, all-balcony cruise ship in the world and was such a hit she was quickly followed by the Voyager. Both the Voyager and the Mariner sleep up to 700 guests, while the Navigator can accommodate up to 490 travelers and the Paul Gauguin can travel with 330 guests.

Crystal and Cunard are two other cruise lines well-known for providing luxury on cruise vacations. Crystal's luxury liner the Crystal Serenity can accommodate 1,080 guests and typically sails in Europe and the South Pacific. However, she's scheduled for an around-the-world tour departing from Los Angeles in January of 2008 and arriving in Southampton, England, 110 days later.

Cunard Cruise Line was founded in Britain in 1838 and has been sailing successfully since then. They are well-known for both safety and luxury. Currently, the Cunard Line sails three luxury liners, the world-renowned Queen Elizabeth 2 (QE2), the Queen Victoria, and the Queen Mary 2.

The immortal QE2 is 963 feet in length and can cruise with up to 1,778 guests aboard. She has logged 5.5 million nautical miles, carried over 2 million guests, and is still the fastest merchant ship in operation. Definitely one of a kind!

The Queen Mary 2 is one of the most magnificent ocean liners of all time. At 1,132 feet she can sail with up to 3,056 passengers in full luxury. Billed as "your sanctuary at sea", the accommodations and dining are first-rate. A luxurious ballroom, planetarium, and sports decks will all keep you occupied. The spa will relax you when you're all done.

Launching in December 2007, Cunard's Queen Victoria will sail her maiden voyage to New York. At 964.5 feet, she'll accommodate 1,980 passengers on 12 decks with typical Cunard service and cuisine.

There are many, many choices for luxury cruise vacations, but no matter which ship, line, or destination you choose, you'll remember that cruise for the rest of your life.

Orlando Cruise and Stay Holidays

If you cannot decide whether to go on a cruise or to stay at a resort, then a cruise and stay deal is the ideal option for you. Here you get the best of both worlds, and it doesn't get better than this, as one gets the thrill of a Caribbean cruise, along with the stay in one of Orlando's top hotels. This way one can enjoy some of the remarkable sights and wonderful ambience that this exciting, bright city has to offer.

Home to Walt Disney World Resort, Universal Studios, and Sea World, Orlando is one of the key tourist cities of the sunlit state of Florida in USA.

Quite a number of cruise lines offer short cruises, departing from and coming back to Florida. These trips cover some of the main and varied ports of the Caribbean.

There is one cruise that takes you from Florida to the Bahamas, Bahamas was long time back a common haven for pirates, and is now famous for its history, wildlife and nightlife. This cruise also takes a person to the shopper's retreat of Charlotte Amalie on St Thomas, one of the Virgin Islands.

Not only is one of the most charming harbors in the world. It presents world class duty free shopping, fine dining, and lively nightspots. All this makes it one of the most visited ports of the Caribbean.

Next up is another brilliant part-French, part-Dutch island of St Maarten. It has picturesque beaches of soft white sand.

Another cruise takes you to in Haiti. Haiti is known for its lively music and carnivals, beaches, and out of this world snorkeling, and Cozumet in Mexico, where one can savor great Mexican food.

There are quite a many good deals that unite these Royal Caribbean cruises with a stay in the best hotels in Orlando. For example one can have four nights room only at the three stars Quality Inn International, along with seven night's on board on Royal Caribbean's Mariner of the Seas. With flights from the UK included, prices are from around £1,000 upwards, on the basis of where you fly from, and what kind of cabin one goes in for.

Carnival also offer short cruises that begin and end in Florida, and are best to be booked as part of a Cruise and Stay deal.

A Cruise and Stay deal to Orlando actually gives just about every ingredient needed for the perfect holiday!

The World's Largest Cruise Ships

It's true that size is not everything - stop laughing at the back, it is true. But for some, the true epic scale of a mammoth building or edifice makes their head spin. The excitement of seeing a truly huge piece of architecture - whatever the setting - can be genuinely impressive. For some people it is the ambition of the project that enchants, for others it is the sheer mechanical magnitude. When the Titanic was developed, its size was one of the things that impressed everyone, but what was truly astounding was that something so big would actually work from a mechanics point of view.

Just as there is no shortage of cities worldwide bringing architects in to conceptualize and build ever taller buildings, in a never-ending race to build the world's tallest (and you can be sure that once one city builds the tallest, another will try to beat it), there seems to be a tendency among cruise lines to build the biggest ship. This race is currently headed in terms of length by Cunard's RMS Queen Mary 2, a 1,132 foot, 148,528 tonne behemoth that regularly crosses the Atlantic and has carried former world leaders such as Tony Blair, Jacques Chirac and George H.W. Bush, the US Olympic Basketball "Dream Team", and the first US copy of J.K. Rowling's Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince.

Although shorter than the Queen Mary 2, Royal Caribbean's Freedom class (consisting of the Freedom of the Seas, Liberty of the Seas and Independence of the Seas), are all heavier than her, weighing an astounding 154,407 tonnes. Built in Finland, these ships are the current holders of the record for largest passenger ships by tonnage and sail to the Caribbean, serving Mexico, the Cayman Islands, Jamaica and Haiti - the final location being Royal Caribbean's private resort in Labadee. Both titles, for longest ship and heaviest ship, though, are set to be given up in this coming year, and will be held by Royal Caribbean's latest development.

Again built in Turku, Finland, Royal Caribbean's Oasis class will stretch the record yet further. 1,180 feet (360m long - that's three football pitches including endzones!), and weighing 220,000 tonnes, the Oasis of the Seas and Allure of the Seas) will be without any shadow of a doubt the biggest passenger liners that have ever been built. This will come to pass in the late stages of 2009, and if there's one thing of which you can be absolutely certain it is that once these ships hit the waves, there will be a company looking to find a way to build something longer, heavier and more remarkable.

The centre of the ship, incorporating a sliding roof, will have what amounts to a set of apartment blocs with a central area featuring a park (based on New York's Central Park) with its own microclimate to ensure that plants and trees can survive. The most amazing levels of innovation, the most ambitious ideas in shipbuilding have been put in place to ensure that this latest record-breaking ship takes its place in the press, and in the minds of lovers of luxury cruises.

Cruise Ship Reviews - The Grand Princess

Sometimes a cruise is just a cruise, but sometimes you can experience a very memorable vacation. Sailing on board a Princess ship is such an experience. The Grand Princess, is quite simply, the nicest ship I have ever sailed on. It is visually stunning, and the service on board this luxury class cruise line is superb.

There is often a noticeable difference in the service between different cruise lines. Princess provided a nice combination of excellent service and enough to do on board the ship. Some ships that I have sailed on have been more elegant, others more fun, but the Grand Princess but none have been an excellent combination of both.

The ship is very well designed and has many amenities: a convenient walking track, three separate pools, ice cream bar, a number of reservations only dining rooms and many bars and theaters.

There is a lot to do on board a princess ship. The Broadway-style shows occurred every night and our cruise featured a comedian, not one but two separate nights. There are also a lot of fun and games organized by the cruise directors staff.

One of the lesser known advantages to sailing on board a cruise ship like this, is that the staff are the best of the best. New staff who have never served on board a cruise ship before, usually work on board the Carnival or Norwegian cruise lines. Princess and Holland America Line are fortunate to be able to select the best of the best to work on board their ships.

Review Of NCL's Pride of America 7 Day Hawaiian Cruise

My first impression of The Pride of America was "this is great, we get champagne just for walking aboard". It was pretty cool. I am a big cruise ship enthusiast, and although this is a pretty standard service, it gets me every time. Anyways, we stayed in one of the suites on the 1100 deck, and it was beautiful, it looked over the sea and had its own balcony, as well as its own butler. We could contact our butler at all times (he had his own phone). The first night was in Honolulu, and we sailed all night until we arrived in Maui. The area we docked in was Kahului and it was in kind of an industrial area, but everything was only a shuttle away (a free one).

That night we ate at the skyline restaurant and got to meet Hero and James. They were our servers and they were fantastic! So charming and so on top of things. They were our servers all week long and they really made the difference for the ship. Unfortunately, one night we had Jose as our server... and to be honest, he was just rude. The service on the ship really varies. Some are great and some are absolutely atrocious. Sunday night was an overnight in Maui, and Monday night we sailed to Hilo, which was so-so. I did not think much of it, just rainy and overcast all day long. Wednesday we arrived in Kona, which, for being on the same island as Hilo, was delightful! So gorgeous, the whole area around where we docked was beautiful and very quaint. Thursday was my favorite of all, Kauai. We had heard so much about the Kalalau trail from James(our wonderful server), and since we are avid hikers, we gave it a whirl. SO beautiful, absolutely breath taking. Kauai was an overnight so we left around 5 o clock on Friday, to set sail to Honolulu.

Overall the cruise was great... the drinks were all a little over priced, but what do you expect. I would highly suggest the Pride of America 7 day cruise to anybody that is thinking about. The landscape of Hawaii is just too unrealistically gorgeous it would be a huge mistake to miss.
